Domain Registration DNS – Your Domain Nameservers is the contact that will be used to connect to the Domain Name Servers (DNS) on your behalf. The DNS, or Domain Name System, is a protocol established by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), a non profit organization. ICANN manages the DNS in order to keep it consistent across the globe. In addition to your domain name, you will use your DNS service provider’s name server to connect to the DNS.
A hosting service may also be required when you have more than one domain on the Internet. The hosting company will act as your DNS host and they will provide you with an Internet address through which you can access your domain names through your web hosting service. There are a variety of different hosting companies available to choose from. There are also many types of hosting, such as, Linux, Windows and others.
For small applications or for simple websites that require minimal storage and bandwidth, the shared hosting method may be sufficient. The main advantage of this type of registration is that you share the same IP address with other clients. For a more efficient hosting service, you can utilize the DNS (Domain Name System) to control your own nameservers and you can select your own web hosting package.
When you select your web hosting provider, you will need to select the type of account that you want. Shared hosting accounts usually give you limited access to your nameservers and email. You cannot manage your domain name directly through your hosting service. If you have complex website, you may be better served by obtaining a managed hosting account. With managed hosting you will have your own nameserver, email address and can manage your domain name as if you were an exclusive member of the hosting company.
If you decide to have your own name server, then you will need to register your domain at the Internet registrar that you selected. It is as simple as entering the domain name in the field provided on the DNS server and you are ready to go. Once your domain name has been registered, you will receive an IP address, which is like a physical address on the Internet. When people visit your site they will enter this domain address into the browser’s address bar. Your website should display the IP address in your address bar.
If your hosting plan includes a DNS server, you will not have to worry about web hosting. When you register your domain name, you will be provided with a physical address, which is a subnet number. You may enter any domain name in this field to access all the other domains associated with the same IP address. Your hosting provider will provide you with instructions on how to change the IP address or you may obtain your own. If you decide to do this, it is very simple.
